The Stakes

The future of Baltimore depends on who gets the opportunity to build it.

Baltimore is filled with talent. The challenge isn’t potential – it’s access to the relationships, skills, and opportunities that help young people build lasting careers.

Opportunity

High growth careers need the next generation of builders.

There is significant demand for skilled workers, and Baltimore organizations are expanding career-connected pathways because employers still struggle to fill many positions

Local Need

Why It Matters

Career exposure changes futures.

Baltimore’s education and workforce partners are investing heavily in apprenticeships, credentials, and career-connected learning because they see these pathways as essential to economic mobility and long-term opportunity.

The Idea

We're building more than a program. We're building a blueprint for belonging.

Building Up Baltimore combines construction, design, mentorship, and community to create more than career pathways. We're building a model where young people gain the skills, confidence, and relationships to shape the future of their city.

Build Skills

Real-world experience through construction, design, and hands-on learning that prepares young people for meaningful careers.

Build Belonging

Mentorship and meaningful relationships create confidence, connection, and a lasting sense of purpose.

Build Baltimore

Young people don't just inherit Baltimore—they help shape its future through leadership, ownership, and opportunity.

A Note From Stacey

"Our greatest investment isn't just in buildings—it's in the next generation."

I didn't grow up in Baltimore. I came here as a registered nurse, expecting to care for people one patient at a time. Instead, Baltimore changed me.

As I began investing in neighborhoods through New Ground Development, I couldn't ignore another opportunity unfolding alongside the city's physical redevelopment. Young people were growing up surrounded by construction and redevelopment, yet few had ever been invited to imagine themselves as the people shaping that transformation—as architects, builders, engineers, planners, and developers."

As a little girl, my grandfather—a general contractor—invited me behind the construction fence before I even knew there was a fence meant to keep me out. Those experiences taught me more than construction. They taught me confidence, responsibility, and the joy of building something that lasts.

Today, I believe communities are built not only with concrete and lumber, but with opportunity, belonging, and people who believe they have a place in shaping their future. Through New Ground Development, we build places that strengthen neighborhoods. Through Building Up Baltimore, we build the people who will one day lead them.
